Reserve Bank of India Governor, Shaktikanta Das, on Friday announced a new scheme on retail digital payments solutions in the offline mode. Also This Service Very Fast and You don’t Need Internet Connection. the service now has over 80 partner banks, 13 languages, and four telecom (Airtel, BSNL, MTNL, Vodafone Idea) under its belt.

Initially UPI, that offered instant and easy money transfer, was made part of various banks’ mobile apps. Following an amazing response to this, NPCI launched an advanced version of UPI called BHIM – Bharat Interface for Money — that brought several new features along with ‘Transfer Money’ and ‘Request Money’. Offline UPI Transactions through *99# service that was introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in November 2012. The services can also be availed by a non-smartphone user. You need to have the SIM card of the registered number in your phone and sufficient bank balance to use this service. The code to access NPCI’s USSD-based mobile banking service is *99#. To get started, open your phone’s dialer, enter this code and press the call button, and wait for the list of services to appear.

  1. Go to Mobile Dialer & Type *99# and press the Call Button
  2. Choose Bank Account & Send Money Number Enter & Call
  3. Choose Option Send Through Mobile Number, UPI ID, IFSC & Account Number
  4. Enter Amount >> Remark
  5. Check Information & Tap on Confirm
  6. Enter UPI Pin That’s it you successfully Send Money Free

*99# service is currently offered by 41 leading banks & all GSM service providers and can be accessed in 12 different languages including Hindi & English.

*99#, a USSD based mobile banking service of NPCI was initially launched in November 2012. The service had limited reach and only two TSPs were offering this service i.e. MTNL & BSNL.Understanding the importance of mobile banking in financial inclusion in general and of *99# in particular, various regulatory/trade bodies came together to ensure on boarding of all TSPs on *99# (USSD 1.0). With the wider ecosystem (11 TSPs), *99# was dedicated to the nation by Hon’ble Prime minister on 28th August 2014, as part of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna .
