Looks like tech companies have taken the onus of making us laugh rather seriously. After Uber’s elaborate plans to prank car-crazy users with its personal toy versions of Lamborghinis and Ferraris, Olacabs has introduced Ola Air. As the name suggests, it is a chopper service aimed to fly people to their destinations in real-time at just Rs 499 per hour. The service is an incredible step forward, and also very untrue. The Ola Air initiative is nothing but a joke, courtesy April Fool’s Day.
The company has gone all the way to make it believable and have even made a witty video for more validity. The video has CEO Bhavish Aggarwal selling Ola Air as a business initiative that takes things up ‘a notch higher’, and a pilot called Vayukumar (you see what they did there?) for adding more reality. Olacabs claims that the new feature is embedded into the app (there is no feature in the app though!), and one can book a chopper ride in real-time evading all the traffic, congestion and basically all the madness on earth.
In this fake Ola Air service, there is a door-to-door pickup feature for private helipad owners. With parking for a four wheeler being the biggest luxury in a densely populated country like ours, helipads obviously are normal every corner sightings. Makes total sense! They’ve also tried to mask the prank by integrating their real services like Ola Cafe into the mix. They claim that if you pre-order via Ola Cafe, food will be served in the skies, while you head to your destination. Extremely sublime!

For those still confused (as many on Twitter are still asking questions), Ola Air is a big fat prank, probably the biggest one by any Indian tech company so far. The hashtag #Olaair has been trending on Twitter with people getting in on the fun, while some actually falling prey to Olacabs’ elaborate joke. TaxiForSure, a rival company that was recently acquired by Olacabs, also tweeted about the ‘revolutionary’ service. Pizza Hut could not stop itself either, and cheekily joked that their delivery boys were indeed as fast as Ola Air.
